AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Mary Lenos Trivett, 19 Feb 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Mary Lenos Trivett, 78, Brown Avenue, Johnson City, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Trivett was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a daughter of the late John Bunyan Trivett Sr. and Vana McGuire Trivett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses G. Trivett Sr., and by two brothers, a sister and a stepson. Mrs. Trivett graduated from Cranberry High School in North Carolina and moved to Johnson City to work and live. After a short time at American Optical Company, she worked for the Kingsport Press. During this time she married Ulysses G. Trivett Sr. Mrs. Trivett attended business college in Johnson City and earned a certificate in stenography. She attended night classes at East Tennessee State University, studying real estate, and then helped her husband incorporate Trivett's Inc., and they along with U.G. Trivett Jr., built apartments throughout the southeast. By this time she and her husband had other real estate holdings, which she helped manage. Mrs. Trivett attended management seminars at Appalachian State University and Georgia State University. She earned her registered apartments manager certification and continued to manage until the mid 1980s. Mrs. Trivett was listed in Personalities of the South in the '70s on two different occasions. She was past president of the Altrusa International of Johnson City, the American Legion Auxiliary, National Conference of Women in Chambers of Commerce, a member of the American Business Women's Association, past officer in the Washington County Republican Women and the Tri-Cities Apartment Association. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Melvin Trivett, Nashville; a daughter, Sherri Trivett Kay, Johnson City; two brothers, Vernon Trivett, Pensacola, Fla., and Clark Trivett, West End, N.C.; and three sisters, Georgia Marston, Peoria, Ill., Jewel Nunley, Elizabethton, and Judy Lynn, Newton, N.C.; and a grandson, Michael Blake Trivett, Johnson City. A step-granddaughter, a step-grandson and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hensley, Rev. Willard Warfield and Rev. James Dampier officiating. Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coalition for Kids, 2308 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
