GEORGE H. WRIGHT JR. 

NEWLAND - George H. "Junior" Wright Jr, 83, of Greystone Lane in the Spear 
community, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at his home. He was the son of the late 
Homer and Mae Miller Wright. He was also preceded in death by a brother, 
Stewart Wright. He was a member and deacon of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church 
and was retired from Hampshire Hosiery of Spruce Pine. He was a U.S. Army 
veteran of WWII, having served in the European Theater in France and Belgium 
and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Buchanan Wright of the home; sons, 
Dewayne Wright of Sylva, Darrell Wright of Marion, and David Wright of 
Newland; daughters, Rebecca Edwards of Newland and Rosemary Grindstaff of 
Spruce Pine; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Yellow Mountain 
Baptist Church. The Revs. Cass Buchanan and Harold Dellinger officiated. 
Burial was in Yellow Mountain Cemetery. The family received friends from 3 
p.m. until the service hour Wednesday at the church. Memorial donations may be 
made to Hospice of Avery County. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the 
family.
