BOONE, N.C. -- Mike Ward, 90, of Elk Park, died Sunday, December 
7, 2003, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.
Mr. Ward was born September 2, 1913, in Beech Mountain, Avery County, 
to the late James Monroe and Zona Mills Ward. He was preceded in 
death by his wife, Mary Eula Stines Ward, four sisters, Jane Greene, 
Grace Harmon, Ann Oaks and Eliza Stines, and five brothers, Dayton 
Ward, Ronda Ward, George Ward, Tom Ward and Raleigh Ward.
Mr. Ward was a retired farmer and a member of Beech Mountain Regular 
Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Lucille 
Ward, Dennis and Kate Ward, Elbert and Sally Ward and J.D. and Eileen 
Ward, all of Elk Park; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Velma and 
Cubie Gragg, Elk Park, Mrs. Reba Church and Shirley and Eddie Miller, 
all of Butler, Tenn.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Susie 
Trivette, Elk Park, and Cora and Elbert Harr, Elizabethton, Tenn.; 
19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 
and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, from 
the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel in Boone. Graveside services and 
interment will follow at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, at Ward 
Cemetery in Elk Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 
p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, friends may call at 
the Ward residence, 523 Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, N.C. Arrangements
