AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - James W. Whitehead, 22 Dec 2004

James W. Whitehead, 87, of Elk River Rd., Elk Park, N.C., died Wednesday, 
December 22, 2004 at his residence.

A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late George Washington 
Whitehead and the late Jodie Mable Watson Whitehead.

He was a graduate of Cranberry High School and a retired painter.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Whitehead; a wife, Bonnie Whitehead; 
two grandsons, Shawn and Andrew Whitehead.

Survivors include his step-daughter, Carolyn Davis, of Banner Elk, N.C.; 
step-son, Robert Cook, of Elk Park, N.C.; sons, Tom Whitehead, of Vallejo, 
Calif.; John Whitehead of Sandy Springs, Ga.; Dick Whitehead, of Fairfield, 
Calif.; Pete Whitehead, of Ceres, Calif.; brother, Willie Whitehead, of 
Lexington, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for James W. Whitehead will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, 
December 26, 2004 from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral 
Home with the Rev. Brent Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitehead 
Cemetery in Banner Elk. Mr. Whitehead will lie in state at the funeral home 
one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Avery
