AVERY COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Macie Bell Hopson Young, 11 May 2004

NEWLAND - Macie Bell Hopson Young, 85, of the Roaring Creek community, 
died Tuesday, May 11, 2004. She was the daughter of the late James 
Hamilton and Carolina Gouge Hopson, and wife of the late Lloyd Earshell 
Young. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vonda Singleton; 
and a son, Earnest Young. She was a member of Roaring Creek Missionary 
Baptist Church, and retired from Ellen's Knitting Mill.

Survivors include five daughters, Mazella Biddix of Conover, Arlene Clark 
of Altamont, Vickie Gwyn of Roan Mountain, Rhonda Ratliff of Spruce Pine, 
and Sonna Anne Twiggs of Newland; three sons, Geter Young of the home, 
Dave Young of Bakesville, and Roger Young of Elk Park; 20 grandchildren; 
28 great grandchildren; and 14 great great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Russell Hoiliman and 
Brent Price officiated. Burial was in Hughes Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral 
home.
