Aleatha Tolley was born in December 1898, and was 14 years old when she was married. There was probably a lot of winking and nodding going on when all of the sworn statements were made. Pritchard, Register of Deeds ---------------------------------- State of North Carolina Avery County Office of Register of Deeds December 17th, 1912 To any ordained Minister of any Religious Denomination, or any Justice of the Peace of said County: John Lewis, having applied to me for a LICENSE for the marriage of Bob Moody of Minniapolis, NC, aged 21 years, color White, the son of Tom Moody and M.E. Moody, the father now Living, the mother Living, resident of Minneapolis, NC and Aleatha Tolley, of Minneapolis, NC, aged 18 years, color White daughter of W.L. Tolley and Sallie Tolley, the father Living, the mother Living, resident of Minneapolis And the written consent of W.L. Tolley & Sallie Tolley, the Parents of the said Aleatha Tolley, to the proposed marriage having been filed with me: And there being no legal impediment to suce marriage known to me, you are hereby authorized, at any time within one year from the date hereof, to celebrate the proposed marriage at any place within the said county.
