Beaufort County, NC - Estate Records File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Kathleen Wilde State of North Carolina Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions Hyde County May Term, 1825 To the worshipful Justices of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Session of Hyde County, the Petition of William L.B. Pearce Adm. de bonis non of Lazarus Pearce late of the County of Beaufort humble complaining sheweth to your worship that Lazarus Pearce the father of your petitioner died on the Day of December 1801 after having duly made & published his last will & testament; in writing & appointed his wife Patsey Pearce the mother of your Petitioner, his Executrix, & Lewis Blount & John G. Blount, Executors to the same; - of whom Patsy Pearce alone qualified & took upon herself the burthen & execution thereof, & took upon her possession all the personal property of her testator to a large amount viz of $5000.00; & that among other things the testator bequeathed to your petitioner the one half of certain negroes, the other half of which he had bequeathed to his wife Patsey during her life & at her death the whole thereof to your petitioner; & that among the negroes bequeathed as aforesaid, there was a negro man named Quamner who came to the hands of the said Patsey, which Said negro was or might have been hired out for a large sum of money, viz. $80:00 per year; that the said negro man Quamner continued in the sole possession of the said Patsey until the day of April, 1806; at which time she intermarried with Selden Jasper late of Hyde County who became executor for Lazarus Pearce in right of his said wife Patsey, & took upon himself the burthen of the execution of the aforesaid last will & testament; & recieved into his possession the said negro man Quamner & hired him out for the above said sum of $80:00 per year; Your petitioner further shews to your worships that on the day of April 1812, the said Patsey Jasper died & in the life time of her husband Selden Jasper the said Selden still keeping in his possession the said negro man Quamner & that on the day of December 1812, the said Selden Jasper died after having made & published his last will & testament in writing wherein he pointed John B. Jasper, William Blount & Thomas H Blount his executors thereto – of whom John B. Jasper & William Blount only, qualified & took upon themselves the burthen & execution thereof, & recieved into their possession all the personal estate of said Selden to a large amount; viz. $10,000:00, – together with the said negro man Quamner (Your Petitioner then being an infant under 21 years of age;) Your Petitioner further shews unto your worships that William Blount one of the Executors as aforesaid & while your Petitioner was still an infant under 21 years of age died on the day of ; Your Petitioner further shews to your worships that he has frequently requested the said Jno. B. Jasper Executor as aforesaid to come to an amicable & equitable settlement with your petitioner for his half of the hire of the said negro man Quamner up to the time of the death of Patsey Jasper; & the whole of the same from that time to the death of the said Selden Jasper but the said John has refused & does continue to refuse to do justice to your petitioner in the premises. Your Petitioner therefore prays your worships to have a copy of this petition served on the said John B. Jasper & a summons requiring him to shew cause why he should not pay over to your petitioner all such sums of sums of money as to you petitioner may be due for the hire of said negro man Quamner; & that your worships will give such other & further relief on the premises as so your worships may deem just & equitable & your Petitioner & ?? will every pray.
