James Calef to Edward Howcott - 1748 - Beaufort Co., NC - Deeds Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Lorene Rambo hocott@aol.com Deeds of Beaufort County, North Carolina Book 3, p. 2 James Calef (Calf, Caless) to Edward Howcott This Indenture made the second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty-eight between James Calef of Bath Town in North Carolina, Trader, of the one part, and Edward Howcot of Bath Town aforesaid in the province aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James Calef in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds to the said James Calef in hand paid by the said Edward Howcott have granted, bargained and sold, aliened and confirmed unto the said Edward Howcott and his heirs all the messuages Situate lying and being on the lot number 58, excepting and reserving unto the said James Calef the brick storehouse, and the land on which it stands, together with ten feet of land in width on the eastwardly or back of the said Storehouse and so the length of said Storehouse, and ten feet of land in width on the southwardly part and so runing to the creek, or water Street, commonly called, together with the land on the westwardly part of the said Storehouse to the aforesaid Street; to wit, one dwelling house, one Kitchen, one Smoakhouse, together with the aforesaid lot and the front thereunto belonging and all other buildings, gardens, easements, and advantages belonging and apertaining to the Same except what is before reserved, to wit, the brick Store house and land adjoining as before mentioned in and to the aforesaid lots and premises except what is before mentioned. To have and to hold the same Messuages and the premises with the appurtenances unto the said Edward Howcott his heirs and assigns forever and the said James Calef and his heirs the aforesaid Messuages lotts and premises above mentioned with the appurtanances, except what is hereby reserved to the said Edward Howcott, his heirs and assigns against him the said James Calef, his heirs and against all others persons, will warrant and forever defend by these presents.
