All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Kathy Wilde wildekat@hotmail.com November 7, 2005, 1:26 am Written: June 16, 1822 Recorded: August 1822 Whereas lately, Beverly Daniel Esquire Marshal of and for the United States for the District of North Carolina was commanded by virtue of several writs of fieri facias and Venditioni exponas issuing from a court of the United States within said District to cause to be made the Sum of One hundred and fifteen Dollars and seventy five cents together with interest and cost thereon accruing; which Sum the United States had Lately in Said court recovered, from John Selby Junior and John G Blount both of the County of Beaufort; and whereas, the said Beverly Daniel in obedience to Said Several Writs, and particularly to a writ of venditioni exponas returnable to April Term 1822, No. 43 – expose to Sale a negro man Slave the property of John Selby Junior which negro had been previously levied on by said Beverly Daniel by his lawfull Deputy Thomas Demill Esquire, at the Court House in the town of Washington on the 20th day of April 1822 by his said Deputy Thomas Demill Esquire; due advertisement having been made and all the requisites of the law complied with previous to said Sale And whereas then and there at said public Sale of Said Negro man Slave by said Marshal, David M Lyons became the purchaser thereof he being the last and highest bidder; at the price of Two hundred and Seventy eight 69/100 Dollars; Now therefore, Know ye, that I Beverly Daniel, Marshal as aforesaid in consideration of the premises and of the Said Sum of Two hundred and Seventy eight 69/100 Dollars to me in hand paid by said David M Lyons the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge by virtue of said Judgment and said writs of execution and by Virtue of my Office of Marshall have granted bargained, Sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain, Sell and deliver to and unto said David M Lyons the aforesaid Negro man Slave Reuben, late the property of Jno M. Selby Junior; to have and to hold Said negro to him the said David M Lyons his heirs and assigns forever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 16th June 1822.
