Beaufort County, NC - William & Polly Smaw to Thomas Smaw Jun., 1827 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Deeds: William & Polly Smaw to Thomas Smaw Jun., 1827: Beaufort County, North Carolina State of North Carolina Beaufort County Know all men by these presents that William Smaw & wife Polly of the County and State aforesaid of the one part and Thomas Smaw Jun of the same place of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred Dollars to the said William Shaw & wife Polly in hand paid by the said Thomas Smaw Jun at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said William & wife Polly hath given granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell unto the said Thomas Smaw Jun his heirs and assigns all rights title, interest or claim which the said William Shaw & wife Polly hath in and to all the lands which descended to the said Polly Shaw by the death of Thomas Smaw the elder decd it being the one ninth part of the lands which the aforesaid Thomas Smaw left at his death. To have and to hold to him the said Thomas Smaw Jun his heirs and assigns forever. Given under our hands & Seals at Washington the 23rd day February 1827. Willm Shaw Mary V Shaw Witness: Edwd Quin February Term 1827 Beaufort Co Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions. This was the Execution of the within deed from William Shaw & wife Mary V Shaw to Thomas Smaw proved in Court the the oath of Edward Quin. Richard H Bonner and James Ellison Esq. are appointed to take the examination of the said Mary V Shaw, seperate & apart from husband William Shaw, relative to her free consent in signing this deed and certify the same under your hands and seals. Jos. B. Hinton clk Agreeable to the above commission to us directed We caused Mary V Shaw to come before us and We seperately and apart from her husband did examin her relative to her free consent as to her executing the within deed to Thomas Smaw, when she did acknowledge that she did sign seal & deliver the said Deed of her own free will and consent and without fear or compulsion of her husband in anyway or manner whatever.
