Know all men by these presents that I William Smaw of the State of  of North 
Carolina and County of Beaufort, for and in consideration of the Sum of One 
hundred and seventy five pounds to me in hand paid by Robert Roe of County & 
State afsd whereof I do hereby acknowledge the Receipt, and myself therewith 
fully and Entirely Satisfied have bargained and sold unto Robert Roe one Negro 
boy named Deany in plain and Open Market According to the form of law in that 
case Made and Provided which Negro boy I do bind myself my Heirs, Exrs, admrs 
to warrant and defend unto the Said Robert Roe his Heirs, Exrs, 
Administrators, against the Lawfull claim or Claims of any person whatsoever.  
In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal
May 30th 1810

Septemr Term 1811 these are to Certify that this bill of Sale from William 
Smaw to Robert Roe, for a negro, was proven in Court by the Oath of John 
Moore, a Witness thereto let it be Registerd.
