Hinton The Standard of Raleigh, Nov. 26, 1862 DIED JOSEPH JOHN HINTON, only son and last remaining child of DR. JOSEPH B. HINTON, of this City, volunteered at the first call of his State in a rifle company just orgainized in his native town, Washington; which was quickly mustered into the 3rd Regiment of North Carolina Troops and sent to guard the Virginia side of the Potomac; where his heath suffered severely during the last year, and never entirely recovered. During the Battle of Sharpsburg, he lost a leg by a shell which fell and exploded in the ranks near where he stood. He was carried to Winchester, Va. but Erysipelas set in and he died on October 1st.
