The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 27 May 1898
Washington Messenger: On Wednesday evening about 8 o'clock Dr Joshua Tayloe,
coroner of this county, received a phone message from Yeatesville, stating that
a murder had been committed at North creek, a few miles from Yeatesville. Major
Woolard, a white man of about 44 years of age, was killed by a pine pole in the
hands of one King Paul, another white man, both residents of North Creek.
