I, Joshua Hill, of the County of Beaufort and State of North Carolina, Planter, being infirm in body hat, in perfect health and disposing mind, do ordain this my Last Will and Testament, in order following: That is to say I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth, to be decently interred at the discretion of my executors. And touching such worldly estate, which it hath pleased God to bless me with, I will and request in the following manner and form: I will that my just debts be paid, and then I leave to my wife, Sarah Hill, the land and plantation on which I now live, during her lifetime or widowhood. And after that to my son, Jiles C. Hill. I also give to my wife, Sarah, a Negro woman, and named Charlotte, during her lifetime or widowhood...And after that to the two chldren Phoebe Peed and Henry Peed, of my daughter, Elizabeth Peed. I give to my aforesaid wife one bed and furniture; one chest of drawers. I also give my aforesaid wife one pot and skillet, and all the earthenware that I am now, or may be possessed of at my death. I also give her one cow and calf. I give her my house-gang of hogs. I give to my three daughters, Celia Ross, Polly Dowty, and Anna Warren, two Negro men, Abraham and Frederick, to be equally divided among them. I give to my two daughters, Winifred Hill and Lavinia Yeates, on Negro boy named Charles, to be equally divided between them two. I give to my two sons, George and Jiles Hill, one Negro boy named Luke, to be equally divided between them two. I give to my son, Jiles Hill, my gun. I give to my daughter, Winifred Hill, one bed and furniture. I give to my daughter, Lavinia Yeates, one bed and furniture. I give to my daughter Winifred Hil, one heifer. I give to my son, George Hill, one cow that is in his own mark. I give to my son Jiles Hill, my hose, saddle and bridle. I give to my two sons George and Jiles, one small bed. Also my land to the said sons after my debts are paid. I give all the residue of my estate, if there be any left, to be equally divided among my seven children: Celia Ross, Polly Dowty, Anna Warren, Winifred Hill, Lavinia Yeates, George Hill, and Jiles Hill. I do make and constitute my two sons, George and Jiles, executors of this, my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have set my hand and seal, this 2nd day of November, 1833.
