Amen. I John Newman of Beaufort County in the State of North Carolina do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, viz. And? Is to say that after all my just debts and funeral charges be satisfied and paid. Item. I give and bequeath unto my loving son Richard Newman the First child that should be hereafter born of my Negro woman called Rosillon and that the said child should be kept and maintained two years from my expense to my said son Richard Newman and also one young horse called Liberty also my one writing desk also one large Church Bible my one Wearing (?) Gold (?) Sleve buttons with all other goods real and personal that he hath before received be it to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give unto my son John Newman son of said Richard one ewe and lamb be it to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give unto my loving son John Newman one Negro girl called Levina, also one Negro man called Jam after the death of his mother or marriage. Also other goods real and personal that he hath before received be it to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Penelope Buck (Brick?) One two year old heifer together with other goods real and personal that she has already received be it to her and her heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath to my loving son James Newman the plantation whereon I now live containing one hundred and sixty acres, one Negro woman called Rosilla, one horse called Davi, also one horse called Tom to be for the use of the plantation. During his mother’s natural life or end of widowhood also one Negro boy called Moses, one oval table, two cows and calves, two ewes and lambs, two sows and pigs, one bed and the furniture thereunto belonging, one large maple desk, one small iron pot, one (?), one plow, one axe, one hoe, my suit of blue broadcloth clothes of my wearing apparel, one beaver hat, one pair of silver shoe buckles and kneebuckles and stock buckle, one chest (?) By the name of my chest also some (?)s at the discretion of his mother be it to him and his heirs forever. Also Item. I give unto my son James Newman (?) (?) Bottles(?) Be it to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife one Negro woman known by the name of Jemmima, also one mare called Fin?, one bed and the furniture thereto belonging. I also give the loan unto my wife Ann Newman the plantation whereon I now live together with all the other part of my estate real and personal that is not herein before devise(?) Be it to her during her natural or end of widowhood and then after the death or end of widowhood then that part of my estate that I give the loan of to my well beloved wife Ann Newman to be equally divided between my four children Richard Newman, John Newman, James Newman and Penelope Buck be it to them and their heirs forever. And lastly I do make and constitute this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills (or wills?) by me made acknowledging this to be my last will and testament and I do hereby constitute and appoint the following persons to be my executrix and executor to this my will, my well beloved wife Ann Newman to be my sole executrix, Richard Newman, John Newman, James Buck to be my sole executors. In testimony whereof I have made this my last will this 18th day of February In the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-one. Witness present: Denis Condry, Mary B.
