Beaufort County, NC - Wills - Tuten, Amos-1834 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Rhonda Toler Whitehurst July 6, 2000 Surname: Tuten, Dowty, Keel, Smaw, Stilley, Roe, Peed "In the Name of God Amen, I Amos Tuten of the County of Beaufort in the State of North Caorlina Being weak in Body but of sound disposing mind and memory and not knowing how soon it may please God to Call me from this earthly tavernicle do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament and as tuching my wordly Estate for which I have been Blessed In this life I Give and Bequeath unto my son, Duran Tuten, my land and plantation whereon I now live also one bead and furniture and one negroe boy by the name of Isack and the Land I bought of Peter Dowty on condition that is to say if He should not marry in the Dowty family then and in that case he shall enjoy the above described property but never the less if my son Duran should marry in the Dowty family then the described property shall Reverte back to my Estate and be equally divided among the Rest of my Children, share and share alike. I also give my son Duran, one dollar. I Give my son, Abslom Tuten the land I purchased of Hardy Keel over the Horsepen branch. I Give my Granddaughter, Clarissa Keel one Bead and furniture and Two Cows and Calves. I Give my son, William Tuten the land I bought of Thomas R. Smaw on the North West side of Far Swamp adjoining the lands of W.E. Smaw and others. I Give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Tuten one negro Woman by the name of Easter and a Negro Girl by the name of Jinny, one Bead and furniture. I Give the balance of my property that I have not mentioned to my Children namely, William Tuten, Penelope Stilley, Mary Roe, Susan Keel, Lucretia Keel, to be equally divided among them share and share alike and Lastly I appoint my son, William Tuten and my friend W.E. Smaw, Executors to this my last Will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 26 day of March 1834.
