David Samuelsen - March 2002 ************************************************************************ Beaufort County, NC; Vol. 1 page 16 (original spelling retained) In the Name of God Amen, I, Thomas Underwood of the County of Bath in the preinct of Beauford being very sick but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore calling unto mind the mortallity of my body and that, it is appointed for all men once to die, Do make this my last Will and Testament, that is to say. First, I recommend my soul unto ye hands of God that gave it and my body to ye earth to be buried in a Christian Like and Decent manner after ye decresion of my Exrs, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall recive the same again. Imprimis, I give and bequeath unto my son thomas my Great Bible when he comes of age and I give him all the cattle that is marked with a crop and a hole in ye right ear & a swallow fork on ye let and all their ye left and all their increase. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son James all the cattle of his mark and their increase ye mark being a crop and a hole on ye let ear and a swallow fork on ye right and Likewise a heifer & her increase in lieu of and earling which I had. Item. I give unto my daughter Elizaebth a cow named Madam and all her increase. Item. I give unto ye child my wife goeth with two cow calves in this next spring encluding the date hereof. Item. I give this plantation and land thereto belonging to my son Thomas when he comes of age. Item. I give unto my son James Three hundred and Seventy acres it being the great fork of the Beaver Dam. Item. I give unto my Loving wife her full thirds of all my Estate both Real & personable and all the rest of my Estate to be equally divided among my children after my debts are paid and my will is that my young horse may be kept till he is fitt to be broke and then sol & I likewise desire that my mare may not be sold but to be kept and the encrease to go to my wife and children & my sheep also. And I do constitute and ordain my loving wife & Mr. Abraham Critchett and Mr. Richard Harvey & Mr. James Singleton and John Dixson to be my whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. Underwood, Dect, was proved in Open Court by the oath of William Whitford one of the subscribing evidence and ye he see the other evidences witness the same ordered that our Secretary have notice thereof.
