Mr. Taylor quotes from A Concise History of the Kehukee Baptist Association, by Lemuel Burkitt and Jesse Read. Lemuel Burkitt was a personal friend of Jeremiah Dargan and writes that Elder Jeremiah Dargan was converted and baptized in South Carolina due to the influence of Anne Moore of Bertie County, North Carolina, whom he met and married while she was visiting in South Carolina. Mr. Taylor states that the traditional date for Elder Jeremiah Dargan's arrival in Bertie County and the founding of the church at Cashie is 1770. The earliest stated meeting place was the home of a Mr. Sowell (or Sewell).
