Bertie County NC Phelps Family Cemetery Contributed to USGenWeb by Suzan Speropoulos This is located on the right of Davis Road down a dirt lane on the land that was originally purchased by James Phelps from William Ashburn in August 1802. This land has remained in this Phelps family since and is presently owned by Jack Phelps of Windsor, gg- grandson of James. This information was provided to me by Jack's wife Lucille and and at her request I am posting it. The original house still remains but is falling in. It is estimated that this house was built about the time of Hope Plantation but they are not sure. It has a cellar as well. The kitchen was detached from the house and what is left has fallen down. There was a grist mill directly behind the house and there are numerous barns still standing. A second house was built many years ago right beside the first house and is used today for lodging hunters. Buried in the cemetary: James W.
