White African - American Cemetery LOCATION Colerain Township Bertie County, North Carolina This cemetery is located 4/10 mile from the center of Powellsville on NC 42 East heading toward Colerain, on the north side of the highway. Located approximately 60 feet from the road, the cemetery is on the right front grounds of the C. G. White School and is enclosed with a 3' high chain link fence. DATE RECORDED 22 June 2000 RECORDER Lynn McCarthy CONDITION OF CEMETERY At the time of the recording, weeds had grown up along the fencing as well as around the graves. MARKED GRAVES C. G. White Born Nov. 24, 1856 Died Sept. 20, 1953 Anne E. B. White Born Sept. 22, 1870 Died Feb. 28, 1954 UNMARKED GRAVES There is no space within the fenced area for there to have been any additional graves. NOTATIONS Charles "Charlie" G. White was both a teacher and a principal at the school named in his behalf. His age varied from federal census to census and from the birth year on his grave marker. It would have been more likely that his birth year was 1866, as given on his death certificate. Anne E. B. "Annie" White was his second wife whom he married circa 1901. She too taught at the school.
