Williams of the county of Bertie and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Thomas J. Pugh, John Devereux, Stephen A. Norfleet, Joseph J. Pugh, and Lewis Thompson, the wardens and vestry and trustees of Grace Church in Bertie County and members of the said congregations (the said church being a church of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the State of North Carolina ) witnesseth that the said H.F. Williams for and in consideration of twenty dollars to him in hand, paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged, hath given, granted, bargained, sold, conveyed, and confirmed, and doth by these presents, give, grant, bargain, sell, convey, and confirm unto the said Thomas J. Pugh, John Devereux, Stephen A. Norfleet, Joseph J. Pugh, and Lewis Thompson, wardens and vestry and trustees of said Grace Church in Bertie County their heirs and successors in office the following lot of land, situated in Bertie County and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a walnut tree on the road, running then north 223 ˝ east up said road, seventy yards to a post on said road place there as a corner; thence south 78 ˝ east, seventy yards to a post in the field, placed there as another corner; then south 23 ˝ west running parallel with the first line seventy yards to another post placed there as a corner, then north 78 ˝ west running seventy yards to the walnut tree on the road, Which was the beginning, containing one acre more or less, to have and to hold the same together with all and singular its appurtenances to the said Thomas J. Pugh, John Devereux, Stephen A. Norfleet, Joseph J. Pugh, and Lewis Thompson, wardens and vestry and trustees aforesaid, their heirs and successors forever to and for the use and benefit of the congregation of said Grace Church in Bertie County and the said H.F. Williams doth for himself and his heirs covenant and agree with the said Thomas J. Pugh, John Devereux, Stephen A. Norfleet, Joseph J. Pugh and Lewis Thompson, Wardens and Vestry and Trustees aforesaid, their heirs and successors to warrant and defend the same to the said Thomas Pugh, John Devereux, Stephen A. Norfleet, Joseph J. Pugh and Lewis Thompson, wardens and vestry and trustees aforesaid, their heirs and successors forever. In witness, whereof the said H.F. Saunders one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be registered William P. Pugh of the county and State aforesaid of the one part, and Lewis Thompson, Joseph J. Pugh, Stephen A. Norfleet, Henry F. Williams, and Thomas Thompson, Wardens and Vestry and Trustees of Grace Church in Woodville, Bertie County, and members of said congregation (The said Church being a Church of Protestant Episcopal in the State of North Carolina), witnesseth, That the said Thomas J. Pugh for and in consideration of twenty dollars, which he hereby acknowledges to have received before the signing and ensealing and delivery of these present, Hath given bargained, granted and sold, conveyed and confirmed, and doth by these presents gives, grant, bargain, sell, and convey and confirm unto the said Lewis Thompson, Joseph J. Pugh, Stephen A. Norfleet, Henry F. Williams, and Thomas Thompson, wardens, vestry, and Trustees of said Grace Church in Bertie County, their heirs and successors in office, the following lot of land adjoining the lot of said Grace Church, bounded as follows; beginning at the corner of the lot of said Grace Church on the road, running thence seventeen yards and a half up the road towards the fork to Windsor. Then a parallel line with the lot of Grace Church seventy yards to Henry F. Williams’ line, then along Henry F. Williams’ line to another owner of the lot of Grace Church, then along the said to the beginning, the lines being all parallel, and containing one fourth of an acre more or less, to have and to hold the same together with all and singular its appurtenances to the said Lewis Thompson, Joseph J. Pugh, Stephen A. Norfleet, Henry F. Williams, and Thomas W. Thompson, wardens, vestry, and Trustees aforesaid, their heirs and successors in office forever, to and for the use and benefit of the congregation of said Grace Church in Woodville, Bertie County. And the said Thomas J. Pugh does for himself and his heirs covenant and agree with the said Lewis Thompson, Joseph Pugh, Stephen A. Norfleet, Henry F. Williams and Thomas W.
