A. Askew and Dr. Henry Mitchell the latter gentleman made the examination. There are nine gun-shot wounds on the body of the deceased, on the side and back, two on the left side of the spine -in the muscles of the back. The shots were received from a gun in the hand of someone standing on the side of the road at the point of time when Mr. Eason had passed a little by him, several of the shots passed through the lungs of the body - has no doubt that Mr. Eason came to his death from these wounds. State of North Carolina Bertie County } The undersigned a Jury of inquest duly summoned and sworn diligently to inquire how being the cause of the death of Alfred Eason Esqr after making proper examination into the facts and circumstances attending the death of said Alfred Eason, and having duly examined upon oath Dr. Joseph Sessoms, Luke Mitchell and William W. Thomas whose testimony taken in writing is hereto annexed, They say and render the following verdict That is is to say, that said Alfred Eason came to his death in the County of Bertie about eight oclock on the day of the eleventh of September A. D. 1858 by nine gun-shot wounds made upon the body of said Eason, by said shots being discharged from a gun held in hands of some person to the jurors unknown. John Perry Jr (Seal) A. J.
