George the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c To the Sheriff of Bertie County—Greeting We command you to summon and warn the Freeholders within our County of Bertie to meet at the Court House in the said County on the 28th Day of this Inst April, then and there to choose and elect Representatives duly qualified to sit and vote in the General Assembly of our said Province, to be held at Newberne, on the 26th Day of May next; then and there to consult on the weighty and ardurous Affairs of Government. Herein you are not to fail; and have you then and there this Writ, with your doings thereupon. Witness our trusty and well-beloved Josiah Martin, Esq; our Captain-General, Governor, and Commander in Chief, in and over our said Province, at Newbern, the 4th Day of April in the 14th Year of our Reign, Anno Dom. 1774.
