Bertie COUNTY NC Court Bastardy Bon Catharine Hickman File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Cathy Farris http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie.htm Bertie County George the 2nd by the Grace of God King of Great Britain To the Sheriff of our said County Greeting-Whereas at a Court begun held for said County on the Second Tuesday in May 1741 our Grand Jury did present and say that Catharine HICKMAN of Bertie County Spinster Single Woman on or about the 1st day of February 1740 at Bertie County aforesaid was delivered of a Bastard Child contrary to our Peace at the motion of our Attorney __ was ordered to issue against the said Catherine HICKMAN. We command you therefore as we commanded you before to take the body of the said Catharine HICKMAN (if to be found in your Bailywick) and her safety keep so that you have her before the Justices at our next Court to be held for county at the warehouse near Cashy Bridge on the Second Tuesday in August next then and there to answer unto the Presention aforesaid herein fail not and have you there this writt.
