To the Sheriff of Bertie County Greeting we Command you tat you take the Body of Edmond MARSH late of your county Labourer- (If to be found in your Bailiswick and him safely KEEP SO THAT YOU HAVE HIM BEFORE THE Justices of our Inferior Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, begin at the next Court to be held for the said County at the Court House in Bertie on the fourth Tuesday in December next and then and there to Answer to our Attorney on our behalf of and concerning a certain Bill of Indictment found by the Grand Inquest of our said County against him for an Assault ___? fail not and have you then and there this writ Witness John JOHNSTON Clerk of our said Court at Bertie the XXIXth Day of September in the Xth year of our Reign 1770. ================ This record shows a bit more of the outcome to the prior court record for Edmund MARSH. By the way, Edmund MARSH married Catherine BRYAN daughter of my William BRYAN and Catherine____/BRYAN/ ELLIS. Catherine is the sister of Michael BRYAN died 1794. When William died 1744, Catherine remained a widow until a few years later then she married Aaron ELLIS. This family is very eventfull and will be a wonderful story...once I can clarify who is who! The record below states that Edmund MARSH must have had altercation with John AVERA (AVERIT? cathy) I am unclear if the King was the one with Force, Arms, Swords, Clubs Naves? and Cowskins or if this is what Edmund MARSH used to assault John AVERA...comments?? John AVERA John STUCKEE Sworn Lent John JOHNSTON Verbatim: North Carolina} At an Inferior Court of Pleas and Quarter Session begun opened and held for the county of Bertie at the Court house in Bertie County on the fourth Tuesday in September being the twenty fifth day of the same month-Before the Worshipful Cullen POLLOK, Lillington LOCKHART, David STANDLEY Esquires three of his Majesties Justices assigned to keep the peace within the said County of Bertie and the rest of the Justices of the said Court.
