Ruffin dcd 16 Sept. 1846 State of North Carolina Bertie County We the Jurors of Inquest first being sworn on the Holy Avangelist of All mighty God have meet at the house of James Turner for the purpose of ascertaining what led to the cause of the death of Negroe Woman Delily the property of John Ruffin heirs and after examining the body of Delily and hearing the evidence of Negroe Woman Mary we unanimously agree that the said Delily came to her death by the throwing of a piece of lightwood at her which hit her under the left [ ? ] side by Negroe man Washington the property of the heirs of said John Ruffin and we can say no farther given under our hands and seals this the 16 September 1846 John Freeman (Seal) Foreman Allen Pritchard (Seal) Cay Boon (Seal) Geo W.
