I Joseph Bryant a Coroner for the County of Bertie attended by a Jury of Twelve good and Lawful men to Wit: S R McDaniel Jacob Sharrock Kenneth Griffin Ned Cotton Jacob Askew E. G. Howard Dempsie Walton Joe Wiggins O. T. Hobbs James Ruffin Hiliard Ruffin and Whit Peelle by me summons and panneled for that purpose according to Law to serve as Jurors and after being duly sworn and Empanneled by me Jos Bryant (Coroner) at Mrs Griffins Plantation in the County of Bertie did hold an Inquest concerning the dead body of Richard Ruffin and after Examination of this person as Witnesses S R McDaniel Mrs. S R McDaniel Caroline Clarke Katie Clarke Elizabeth Norfleet who saw the dead body the said Jurors do find that the said Richard Ruffin came to his death by being shot with a Pistol in the hands of Levi Clarke with Intent to Kill and we the above Jurors do sign this Verdict in present of Joseph Bryant Coroner of Bertie County S R McDaniel Jacob Sharrock Kenneth Griffin Ned Cotton Jacob Askew E.
