Be it remembered that on this the 30 day of October 1874
I Joseph Bryant Coroner of the county of Bertie attended
by a jury of good and lawful men Turner Ruffin Co. H.
Jorden Co. Madenson Smallwood Fayton Jones Solomon Gillam
Kader Speller Henrey Spivey Robert Outler Henery Bond
John Dawson white Felix Gillam King Cooper by me summoned
for that purpose according to law after being by me duly
sworn and empannelled at roanoke river 2 miles above
Concot landing in the county aforesaid did hold inquest
over the ded body of a drowned child the boddy not found
the body is destroyed Witness Washington Johnson on last
Sundy my Self and Lidy Lee found hear against that log a
ded cullard child think it to be a year old tuck [i.e.,
took] strings and tide both feet to the log and put
bushes over it the child thar on tusday, friday the 30th
the child gon the child had on the Same clothes that a
child had that got drounded in the river the day that it
was drounded Lidy Lee testify it the above and after
examining into the facts and Circumstances of the death
of the deceased from a view of the plase the corpse had
lied tied and all the testimony to be procured that Said
jury find as follows that is to say the child was
drounded and then destroyed by the fouls and varmants
