JWmo01@aol.com September 26, 2004, 3:00 pm Source: Deed Book - Apprentice Written: 1774 THIS INDENTURE made the XII Day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-four - WITNEFSETH That David Standly Presiding Justice and the rest of the Justices of Bertie County have put and placed ___? Clifton Moore an orphan of Agnis Moore, aged about five years an Apprentice to Peter Clifton of the said county with him to dwell, preside and serve until the said Apprentice shall arrive at the age of Twenty-one years, according to the Act of Afsembly in that Case made and provided, during all which time the said Apprentice, his said Mafter shall faithfully serve in all lawful businefs and orderly and obediently in all things behave himself towards his said Mafter, for and during the said term, as an Apprentce ought to do. And the said Peter Clifton doth covenant, promise and agree to and with the said David Standly and his succefsors, that he the said Peter Clifton will provide and allow his said Apprentice convenient and sufficient Meat, Drink, Lodging and Apparel and use his best Endeavors to instruct him in the Art and Calling of a Carpenter and House ____? and afso teach him to read and write before the expiration of his Apprenticeship. In Witnefs whereof the said David Standly and the said Peter Clifton have hereunto interchangeably set their hand and seals, the Day and Year first above written.
