Bertie County NC Deed Acree, William to Thomas Ruffin 1816 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Virginia Crilley varcsix@hot.rr.com Deed book 101 Nov 7, 1816 Wm Acre to Thomas Ruffin This Indenture made this the 7th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen between William Acree of the State of North Carolina & the county of Bertie of the one part & Thoas Ruffin of the same state and county of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Acree for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and fifty two dollars and fifty cents ($452.50) to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Ruffin before the ensealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof the said William Acree doth hereby acknowledge hat granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell to him the said Thomas Ruffin and his heirs all that certain message or track of land situated lying and being in the county of Bertie above said Butted and bounded as follows viz: Beginning at William Granberry's corner the South Prong of Cashie Swamp running down swamp to the mouth of the Dam Branch Then up the said Branch to a maple and two oaks a corner Then along a line of marked tree to a corner a sweet gum than along a line of marked tree to a corner two pines then along another line of marked tree to William Granberry's corner on Samuel Grandberry's line. Being the same land that is given in and by the last will and testament of John Acree to his son William Acree to have and to hold with above bargained premises together with all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Thomas Ruffin and his heirs forever and of the said William Acree for myself and heirs do hereby warrant and defend unto the said Thomas Ruffin and his heirs forever the above bargained premises against the claim or claims of any and all persons whateever provided always and these presents are upon this condition and it is the true intent and meaning hereof and of the parties hereunto that if the said William Acree his heirs or assigns on or before the 7th day of May next issuing the date of these presents shall null and truly pay as cause to the paid unto the said Thomas Ruffin his heirs and assigns the aforesaid sum of two hundred and fifty two dollars and fifty cents together with legal interest thereon from the date of these present and also the last of these instrument then this deed to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. King John Yo8ung I acknowledge that I have received from Thomas Ruffin the sum of four hundred and fifty two dollars the amount specified in the face of this deed 7th day of November 1816. King John Young State of North Carolina Bertie County Court November term 1816 this deed from William Acree to Thomas Ruffin was proved in open court by the oath of John H. King one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be registered.
