Askew to Joseph B. Ruffin Deed Bertie County Deed Book VV Pages 470-472 State of Tennessee Madison County This Indenture made this the 17th day of January 1873, between Thomas E. Askew of the County and State aforesaid of the first part, and Joseph B. Ruffin of the County of Bertie State of North Carolina of the Second part, Witnesseth that the said Thomas E. Askew for and in consideration of the sum of Nine hundred dollars to him in paid by the said Joseph B. Ruffin, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged in full, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, hath granted, bargained, sold conveyed and delivered and by these, do grant, bargain, sell convey and deliver, unto the said Joseph B. Ruffin his heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns, a certain tract parcel, piece or messuage of land, lying being and situate in the County of Bertie and State of North Carolina, and known, butted and bounded in the following manner Bounded, by the lands of James S. Mitchell's estate, W.H. Taylor, J.P. Freeman, Lewis Todd, Charles Stephenson & others and known ! as the Watford tract of land, and containing about Five hundred acres more or less- To have To Hold the above bargained & sold tract of land & tenements together with all the appertenances thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining, to him the said Joseph B. Ruffin his heirs Executors, administrators, and assigns in fee simple forever. And, I the said Thomas E. Askew doth for myself, my heirs Executors and assigns, covenant to and with the said Joseph B. Ruffin his heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns, to warrant and forever defend the right and title in and to the tract of land, free from the claims or claims of any/all persons whatsoever, in as full complete and ample manner as the law will allow and enjoin- In testimony of all of which, I the said Thomas E. Askew, have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date having first above been written. Thomas E. Ruffin has this day presented to this Court a deed from Thomas E. Askew to Joseph B. Ruffin and affixed the same for Probate, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Thomas E. Askew the grantor in said deed is a resident of Madison County State of Tennessee. You are hereby appointed a commissioner to take the Probate or acknowledgement of the said Thomas E. Askew as to the execution of the said deed, and report to this Court. Witness William P. Gurley Probate Judge of Bertie County State aforesaid this the 24th day of January A.D. 1873. Wm. P. Gurley Probate Judge State of Tennessee Madison County In obedience to the annexed commission Thomas E. Askew this day personally appeared before me and duly acknowledged the exection of the annexed deed. Feby 8th 1873 A.O. Askew State of North Carolina Bertie County The foregoing certificate of A.O.
