State of North Carolina, Bertie County. This deed made this the 14th day of January 1910, by J. O. Askew and wife Mary D. Askew and W. P. Shaw and wife Mary R. Shaw, of Hertford County, and state of North Carolina, parties of the first part, and J. B. Ruffin and A. S. Wynns, Trustee of Powellsville Missionary Baptist Church, and their successors in office, of Bertie County and state of North Carolina parties of the second part, Witnesseth: That the said J. O. Askew and wife Mary D. Askew and W. P. Shaw and wife Mary R. Shaw in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars to them paid by the parties of the second part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell, and convey to said J. B. Ruffin and A. S. Wynns Trustee and their successors in office for a site for the said Powellsville Missionary Baptist Church. A certain tract or parcel of land in Bertie County and state of North Carolina, adjoining the lands of R. W. Holloman heirs and other lands of the parties of the first part, and bounded as follows: Beginning on the road leading from Powellsville to Ahoskie opposite a white oak near the aforesaid public road at the north end of the W. S Askew Gin house site. and running thence a westwardly direction a straight line by the said white oak and at right angles with the said public road, to the right of way of the Wellington and Powellsville Railroad and running thence southwardly along the said Rail Road right of way to a ditch, and thence eastwardly along the said ditch a line for the Askew store lot to the aforesaid public road, and thence running northwardly along the said public road to the first mentioned station, containing about 15/16 part of one acre be the same more or less. To Have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land, and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said J. B. Ruffin and A. S., Wynns Trustees parties of the second part and their successors in office to their use and behoof forever. And the said parties of the first part, covenant to and with the parties of the second part that they are seized of said premises in fee and have good right to convey the same in fee simple; that the same are free and clear from all incumbrances and that they will warrant and defend the title to the same against the claims of all persons whomsoever. In testimony whereof the said J. O. Askew and wife Mary D. Askew and W. P. Shaw and wife Mary R. Shaw his wife personally appeared before me this day and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed deed of conveyance and the said Mary D. Askew and Mary R. SHaw being by me privately examined separate and apart from their said husbands touching their voluntary execution of the same, doth state that they signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear or compulsion of their said husbands or any other person and that they doth still voluntarily assent thereto.
