Asa Barnes to Richard Powell

This Indenture made the 29th day of January 1840 between Asa
Barnes of County of Bertie and State of North Carolina of the one
part and Richard Powell of County &State aforesaid of the other part
Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of eighty five
Dollars to me in hand paid at the Signing & sealing of these presents
by the Said Richard Powell the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowlege
and myself fully satisfied and contented have bargained & sold &
conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell & convey unto the
said Richard Powell his heirs and assigns forever one piece parcel
or tract of Land lying and being in the County of Bertie and State
aforesaid containing by estimation one hundred acres be it the same more
or less beginning at water oak Standing in the edge of The road in a
branch thence running up the run of Said Branch to where the branch
forks thence the right hand fork a South East course to Allen Pritchards
corner thence along his line to Willie Bridgers line to a pine Standing
in the edge of the road thence along said road to the first station
Known by the place where David Lasiter lives, to him the Said
Richard Powell his heirs and assigns forever and the said Asa Barnes
doth warrant and forever defend the wright and title of all the above
mentioned premises to him the said Richard Powell his heirs and
assigns forever, In testimony of all which I have here unto set my hand
& seal.

This Deed from Asa Barnes to Richd Powell was proved in open Court
by the oath of Wright A Wynns one of the subscribing witnesses
