Spivey- August 1822 This indenture made this 17th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty two between BLOUNT B. RUFFIN of the State of N. Carolina and County of Bertie of the one part and WILLIAM B. SPIVEY of the same State and County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Blount B. Ruffin for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars, the payment of which he hereby acknowledges to be secured to him by the said Wm. B. Spivery hath given, granted, bargained, and sold and by these present doth give, grant, bargain and sell to him the said William Bryan Spivey and his heirs forever, one certain tract and parcel of land situated lying and being in the county of Bertie an lying on the north side of Roquist Swamp containing by estimation 240 two hundred and forty acres be the same more or less and bounded by land of REUBEN PARKER, the heirs of JOHN CLARK dec'd, and of JOHN BAZEMORE dec'd being a part of the land formerly owned by JACOB GARRETT dec'd and that part which was allotted and set off to MARY LAWRENCE, NANCY KING, DAVID GARRETT, NAOMI CHOAT AND JACOB GARRETT, heirs of Jacob Garrett dec'd as will appear by refference had to the diviison of the land of said Jacob GARRETT dec'd returnalbe to and recorded in Bertie County Cout to have and to hold the above bargained promeses to him the said William B. SPIVEY and his heirs forever free from any claim or claims of any and all persons and the said Blount B. Ruffin will for myself and heirs forever warrant and defend to the said Spivey his heirs or assings the above bargained, promises against the legal or equitable claim or claims of any and all persons, claiming or claim.
