(Digital file 009-0489 VA State Library.) Transcribed by Ken Lindsay 14 Feb 1999: To all: Whereas: Now know ye that I the Francis Nicholson, Esq. Governor and to with the advice and consent of the Council of State accordingly give and grant unto James BRYAN one hundred acres of Land on the South Side of the Main Blackwater in the County of Isle of Wight beginning at the mouth of a branch in Nottoway’s Swamp and so up the various Courses of the said branch to a marked Maple tree at the mouth of another small branch and so up the said branch to a marked pine standing in the branch and thence South twenty Seven degrees and about 6" West Fifty Six pole to a red Oake thence South Eighty Eight degrees West thirty four pole to a Red Oake thence South Sixty Six degrees West Ninety four pole to a Red Oake thence West five degrees North thirty Eight poles to a red Oake thence South Seventy one degrees West forty eight pole to a Gumm standing in a branch and so down the said branch to ye run of the aforesaid Swamp and so up the various Courses of the said runs to the beginning the said Land being due unto the said James BRYAN by and for the transportation of two persons into this Colony whose names are to be in the records mentioned under this Patent. To have and to hold and to be held yielding and paying and Provided and given under my hand and the Seal of the Colony this 28th day of October anno Dom. 1702.
