E533 12 July 1739    Robert BUTLER to William TAYLER

To all people to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye that I Robert BUTLER of 
EDGCOMBE in the County of BERTIE with his majesties province of North Carolina for and in 
consideration of the sum of thirty pounds VA money to me in hand before the ensealing hereof 
will and truly paid by William TAYER of Bertie County the receipt whereof I do hereby 
acknowledge and myself themwith fully satisfied and contented and thereof and of every part 
and percel thereof do exonerate, acquit, and discharge the said William TAYLOR his heirs Exes 
and Adm forever by these presents have given, granted, bargained, sold, alined, conveyed and 
confirmed and by these presents do freely fully and abolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, 
aline, convey, and confirm unto him the said William TALER his heirs and assigns forever one 
messuage or tract of land and Plantation situate lying and being in Bertie County containing 
by estimation two hundred acres m/l buting and bounding on the SS of Merattuck River beginning 
at a marked Cypress standing on the river pocosan Francis ROUNTREES lower corner tree south 
along his line of marked trees to the Headline south down the headline to John BALLARDS corner 
tree in the headline south from thence along a line of marked trees to a  marked sweet gum in 
the head of a branch south down the run of the branch to a marked cypress in the river pocoson 
thence up the river pocosan to the first station. 

To have and hold the sd granted and bargained premises with al the appurtences, priveledges, 
commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the sd William TALER his 
heirs and assigns forever  to his and their only propr use, benefit and behoof forever and I 
the said Robert BUTLER for my my heirs Exe And Adm do covenant, promise, and grant to and with 
the sd William TALER his heirs and assigns forever taht therefore the ensealin ghereof I am 
the true sold and lawfull owner of the above bargained premises and am lawfuly seized and 
possessed of the same in mine own proper right as a good perfect and absolute estate of 
inheritance in fee simple and have self good right full power and lawful authority to grant, 
bargain, sell, convey and confirm the sd bargained premises in manner as above sd and that the 
sd William TAYLOR his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times 
forever hereafter by force and virtue of these presents lawfully peacable and quietyly have, 
hold, use, occupy, possess, and enjoy the sd demised and bargained premises with the 
appurtenance free and clear deed freely and clearly acquited, exonerated, and discharged of 
and from all and all manner of former gifts, grants, bargains, sales, leases, mortgages, wills 
entails joynters, doweries, judgemnts, executions, incumbrance and extents. Furthermore I the 
sd Robert BUTLER for myself my heirs Exe and Adm do covenant and engage the above demised 
premsies to him the sd William TALER his heris and assigns against the lawfull claims or 
demands of any person or persons whatsoever forever hereafter to warrant secure and defend and 
Ann BUTLER the wife of me the said Robert BUTLER doth by the presents freely willingly give 
yield up and surrender all her right of dowry and power thirds of an in and unto the above 
demised premises unto him the sd William TALER his heris and assigns. In witness whereof I do 
hereby set my hand and seal the 12th day of July 1739.
