This indenture records this 21 day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and thirty three between JETHRO BUTLER of Bertie County and the state of North Carolina of the one part and THOMAS EVANS of said county and state of the other part; __?__ that the said JETHRO BUTLER for and in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars and ninety six cents to him in hand paid by the said THOMAS EVANS the receipt whereof the said JETHRO BUTLER doth hereby acknowledge; hath granted, bargained & sold and by those present doth grant, bargain and sell unto said THOMAS EVANS and his heirs a certain piece or parcel of land which lying & being in Bertie County aforesaid on the north side of white oak -------?, -------? and boarded as follows, to wit: beginning at the center of a pine ---? and sweet gum, JETHRO BUTLER and THOMAS EVANS carries thence south 8? west 118 poles to a sweet gum, thence south 27 1/2 east 58 poles, thence south 21 east 33 poles to a pine on the branch ?? of BUTLER and EVANS corners, thence south 86 east 38 poles to a pine on the branch ?? of BUTLER and EVANS corners, thence ?? the branch ?? 20 east 28 poles, thence north 35 1/2 east /12? poles, thence to the first station, containing forty three acres more or less, being part of the land that PRITCHARD sold & conveyed to OUTLAW by deed bearing date the 28 day of March one thousand seven hundred and eighty one and part of the tract of land which LEWIS BOND, sheriff of Bertie County sold and conveyed to HOUSTED? REYNOLDS and his heirs by deed bearing date of the 16 day of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven and which piece or parcel of land the said HOUSTED? REYNOLDS sold and conveyed to JETHRO BUTLER and his heirs by deed bearing date the seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight. To have and to hold the said piece or parcel of land of forty three acres above described with the appurtencies hereby bargained & sold to the said THOMAS EVANS and to his heirs and ??? forever and I the the said JETHRO BUTLER do hereby warrant and defend the title to the said piece of land to the said THOMAS EVANS and his heirs against ?? heirs and those claiming by or through me.
