Bertie County, NC Deed. James J. CHOAT to Blount B. Ruffin - 1826 Deed Book CC p.501 This agreement made and entered into this twentysixth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and twenty six between John J. Choat and Naomi B. Choat of the one part of the County of Rutherford and State of Tennessee and Blount B. Ruffin of the County of Lincoln and State aforesaid fo the other part. Witnesses that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to us in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, we have bargained, sold, aliened, conveyed and confirmed and by these present doth bargain, sell, alien, convey and confirm unto the said BLUNT B. RUFFIN one certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the County of Bertie, State of North Carolina, beginning at REUBEN PARKER's line, thence to Nancy Clark's line, then to Nancy Garrett's line, thence with her line and including sixty acres (60) be the same more or less. To have and to hold the above described parcel of land and bargained, premiese with all and singular the rights profits hereditrements in any wise thereunto belonging or appertaining to have, the said BLUNT B. RUFFIN, his heirs and assings forever and we the said JOHN J. CHOAT and NAOMI CHOAT, so bind ourselves, our heirs and assings to forever warrant and defend the right to the above described tract of land unto the said BLUNT B., his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever. Aug Term 1826 The foregoing deed of conveyance from John J. Choat and Naomi Choat, his wife, to Blunt B. Ruffin for sixt acres of land lying in Bertie County and State of North Carolina was presented in open court and was acknowledged by the said John J and Naomi B. to be their act and deed for the purpose therein mentioned and therefore the Court proceeded to take the private examination of the said Naomi B., wife of the said John J. Choat separte and apart from her said husband who says she executed said deed of conveyance of her own free will and not by the compulsion of her said husband, all which an motion is ordered to be certified to the County where the land lies for registration. In testimony whereof I, William Ledbetter, Clerk of said Circuit Court have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of said Court to be affixed at office in Murfreesborough, August 27th, 1826 and 51st year of American Independence.
