JWmo01@aol.com September 26, 2004, 2:55 pm Written: February 27 1775 North Carolina THIS INDENTURE, made the XXIII Day of February in the Year of our Lord Christ, One Thoufand Seven Hundred and Seventy Five BETWEEN John Campbell Esq of the County of Bertie and Province aforefaid, on Behalf of the Juftices of the Faid County, and their Succeffors, of the one Part, and Charles Powers of the County and province afsd of the other part; WITNESSETH, That the faid John Campbell in Purfuance to an Order of the Faid County Court, made the XVIII Day of February and according to the Directions of the Act of Affembly in that Cafe made and provided, doth put, place, and bind unto the faid Charles Powers one John Moore the son of Agnis Moore aged about ten years __? with the faid Charles Powers to live after the Manner of an Apprentice and Servant, until the faid Apprentice fhall attain to the Age of Twenty-one Years: During all which Time the Faid Apprentice his Mafter fhall faithfully ferve, his lawful Command every where gladly obey; he fhall not at any Time abfent himfelf from his faid Mafter's Service without Leave, but in all Things as a good and faithful Servant fhall behave towards his faid Mafter: And the faid Charles Powers Doth Covenant, Promife, and agree, to and wih the faid John Campbell that he will teach and inftruct, or caufe to be taught and inftucted, the faid John Moore to learn the Trade of a Bricklayer and also to read write and ____?. And that he will conftantly find and provide for the faid Apprentice, during the Term aforefaid, fufficient Diet, W afhing, Lodging, and Apparel, fitting for an Apprentice; and alfo, all other Things neceffary, both in Sicknefs and in Health. IN WITNESS whereof, the Parties to thefe Prefents have interchangeable fet their Hands and Seals the Day and Year first above written.
