Bertie County Know all men by these presents that I, Henry Gardner of Chowan County & state above by virtue of power of attorney given to me by Isaac Gardner of the Sate of South Carolina for an consideration of the sum of (50) Fifty pounds paid to me in hand by Richard VEALE of the county of BERTIE do bargain sell & convey unto the said Richard Veal TWO tracts or parcels of land lying and being in Bertie County. The first tract beginning at a maple & White Oak in Roquist Pocoson. ___ Thos & Richard Veal's corner Then along Thos Veal's old line to a White Oak Richard Veals Corner thence along his line N40E 66 pole to a Red Oak in William Veal's line then along his line to his corner upon the side of the Beach Ridge to a Sweet gum than along his line to a black gum & holley formerly Maurice Veal's corner then along his line 79 pole to a beech Richard Veale's corner then along his line 70 pole to the first station containing 44 acres more or less. The other tract beginning at a Red Oak in the Meadow Richard Veal's corner on William Veal's line then along Richard Vel's line N59W 65pole to a Red Oak win Thos Veal's line then along his line to a post Oak formerly Maurice Veal's corner thence along his line to dead pin side of the Meadow branch Charles Kings' & William Veal's corner then along Veal's line to the first station containing eighteen acres more or less which said two tract or parcel of land I do by virtue of the said power of attorney given me by Isaac Gardner for myself & Heirs , warrant & defend the said TWO tract or parcels of land unto the Richard Veal his heirs and assigns forever against the claim or claims of any person or person whatsoever. In witness whereof I the said Henry Gardner having full power so to do have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17th November 1808. Henry (x) Gardner for Isaac Gardner. Witnesses: Lewis Thompson Additional Comments: Henry and Isaac were brothers, sons of John Gardner and his wife, Anna. Division of father John's land in Aug 1791, gave 44 acres to 10 sons. His widow married Asa Hollowell, and she sells her share of 143 acres to Thomas Veale Jan 1796.
