David Garrett to Thos Ruffin   

State of Tennessee 
Sumner County 

Know all men by these presents that I David Garrett of
the state and county aforesaid for certain good causes
and considerations do hereby nominate   constitute and
appoint Thomas Ruffin of Bertie County and state of North
Carolina my agent and attorney for me and my own name to
appear in open court in the court of pleas and quarter
session of Bertie County and dismiss from the record and
docket of said court a certain suit which has been
brought in said court by one EIljah Rayner in my name
against Blount B. Ruffin on a note pertaining to be
executed by said Ruffin to me for the sum of two hundred
dollars with the interest there on & which Note the said
Rayner has no right whatsoever the same having been paid
and settled by Blount B. Ruffin to me hereby ratifying
and approving whatsoever my said attorney shall do his
behalf as witness ny hand and seal this day of October
1830.

This Power of attorney from David Garrett to Thos Ruffin
was proved in open court by the oath of Reuben Parker who
maketh oath he is well acquainted with the hand writing
of David Garret and that he believes this Power of
Attorney to be executed by him.  Ordered that the same be
registered.
