All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by JGH900@aol.com Jim Holder http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie.htm Deed from Harberd Gilman to James Holder Deed dated February 17, 1786 Deed Book N, Pages 191/2 Recorded February Term 1786 "To All to whom these presents shall come, greeting, Know ye that I HARBERD GUELMAN, of Johnston County and State of North Carolina, Planter, for an[d] in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds to me in hand paid by JAMES HOLDER the receipt whereof I do acknowlidge myself fully contented paid and satisfied have given granted sold bargained conveyed confirmed unto him the said JAMES HOULDER his heirs and assigns forever one messuage or tenement of land situate in Bertie County and State aforesaid containing two hundred acres be the same more or less Beginning at a white oak JOHN KITTRELL corner tree running up the said line to a line of marked trees marked by consent by the former owner of the said land thence along the said line to CULLEN POLLAK's [POLLOCK] line thence along down the said POLLAK's line to the his corner tree that stands in the Little Rocquist Swamp thence up the said swamp to the first station being a tract or parcel of land that was formerly sold and conveyed from JOHN BENTLEY to JOSEPH GRIFFIN all the said land as aforesaid the rights hereditaments previledges appertainences thereunto belonging unto him the said JAMES HOLDER his heirs and assigns and to there own proper use benefit and behoof forever unto him the said JAMES HOULDER in clear and ample manner and form as aforesaid to all intents and purporpises [purposes] whatsoever charged from jointers dowers judgments executions will[s] leases or any incumbrances whatsoever and I the afforesaid HARBERD GUELMAN my heirs forever do warrant and forever secure the said bargained land and premises unto him the said JAMES HOULDER his heirs and assigns forever to Witness whereof I have whereunto set my hand and fixed my hand and seal this Seventeenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and Eighty Six ----- HARBERD GIULMAN [his mark] Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of us - ANDREW OLIVER, ELISHA RHODES, SIMON TURNER.
