Hamlin to Henry Ruffin Deed Nov 1899 Bertie County, NC Deed Book 99, Pages 565 - 566 State of North Carolina Bertie County This Indenture made and entered into on first day of Novem, and in the year one- thousand eight hundred and ninety nine by and between Willie J. Hamlin of the County of Vance, and State of N. Carolina, party of the first part, and Henry Ruffin of the County of Bertie, and of N. Carolina party of the second part, witnesseth: - that for and in consideration of the sum of fifty Dollars to me in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, I the party of the first part, doth bargain and sell and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto Henry Ruffin, party of the second part, a certain tract or parcel of land situated in Indian Woods Township, Bertie County, and State of N. Carolina, and bounded as follows, to wit, commencing at a Hickory on the land leading to the old Smallwood Mill, S. 62 ¼ degrees W 7.50 chs – to canal- thence Spruill’s line to corner a marked tree, - thence N. 31 ½ E 10 chs – to an oak- N 29 E 8.18 chs – to place of beginning containing 13 1/7 acres. To have and to hold, - to occupy and possess the aforesaid mentioned premises - to him- the said Henry Ruffin his heirs, and assigns forever, - to his and their own possess use benefit, and behalf, and the said Willie J. Hamlin for himself, his heirs administrators and assigns doth covenant and agree that she will forever warrant and defend the title to above described land to the said Henry Ruffin, and his heirs and assigns against the legal claims of any, and all persons whatsoever.
