Halsey, of the County of Choan, of the one part, and Freeman Rice, of the County of Bertie, of the second part, all of the state afforsaid, witnesseth, that I, the said Freeman Rice, for an in consideration of the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars, to me in hand paid by the said Cullen A. Halsey, hath bargain, sold, and delivered unto the said Cullen A. Halsey, his heirs and assigns for ever, one certain tract of land lying and being in the County afforsaid bounded as following: commencing in the Madre Swamp; then up Elizabeth Perry's line to Holly & Perry line; then Holley's & Perry's line to Wm D. Perry line; thence along Perry line to Madre Swamp; thence along to the first station containing by estimation one hundred and fifty acres, more or less, with all and every appertanance thereinto belonging, or in any wise appertaine. And I, the said Freeman Rice, do convenant to and with the said Cullen A. Halsey, that I have before the executing of this deed full rite and absolute and lawful authority to sell the said lands and premises and agree hereby to warrant and forever defend the rite and title of the same to him the said Cullen A. Halsey and his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the day and year above written.
