Hill of the above State & County, for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by Thos. J.P. Smallwood & Sally A. Smallwood, and the further consideration of a tract of Land, conveyed to me in a Deed bearing eavue date with these presents which by reference to said Deed, will more fully appear, have bargained & sold & conveyed, and by these presents do bargain & sell & convey unto the said Thos. J.P. Smallwood & Sally A. Smallwood, and their heirs a certain tract or parcel of Land, lying in the County of Bertie in the Indian Woods on the North side of the main Road, bounded as follows: Beginning at a Sycamore tree on the main Road; thence No 32 degrees E. 16 poles, N. 42 E. 17 poles S. 73 degrees E 17 poles to a Sweet Gum; thence N. 15 E 36 N 19 W 26 N. 33 W 14; thence West to a Pine on the main Road; thence down the main Road to the beginning containing twenty five acres more or less and all the Land belonging to me lying East of a certain lane running from the main Road near where my front gate now stands southwardly: To have & to hold the above bounded tract of Land to them the said Thos. J.P. Smallwood & Sally A. Smallwood & their heirs forever & I the said William J. Hill, do bind myself and heirs to warrant & defend their heirs forever free & discharged from my & all claims whatsoever. Smallwood was proved in open Court by the oath of William Griffin the subscribing witness thereto, and orderd to be registered. Wm. P. Gurley Clerk NOTE: Willie Julia (Ruffin) Hill was the sister of Sally (Ruffin) Smallwood.
