BERTIE COUNTY Land Patent Hodge,Robert & Lawson, Anthony-1680 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by "Ken Lindsay" Robert Hodge & Anthony Lawson Virginia Land Patent – Patent Book 7, pages 58-59 and Dated 27 Sep 1680 (Lower Norfolk Co.) The following patent was downloaded from the digital land record files of the Virginia State Library and transcribed 25 July 25, 1999, by Ken Lindsay of Evansville, Indiana. This record appears to survived the time very well. It follows verbatim: "To all v: Whereas v: Know ye that I the sd. Sir Henry (Chishley?) Knt. Depty. Governor give and Grant Unto Mr. Anthony Lawson & Mr. Robert Hodge twelve hundred fifty acres of Land lying in the County of Lower Norfolk neare by Coast going by the name of (Robert's?) Forest. Beginning at a white oak stake by ye (???) (???) & running West by marked line dividing this Land and Wm. Bennett's (South?) hundred poles to a pine; thence, North on hundred & twelve poles to ye (Salt?) Gum (by?) (another?) to a red oak, the said Gum (standing?) on the sd. Branch Southwest by West twenty five poles to Edward (Owen's?) Corner tree standing by a branch; thence, on his line North West by West ½ deg. By one hundred fifty eight poles the (Corner?) his line (to?) (a?) red oak; thence, on the said (Corner?) tree; thence, South eight five & ½ deg. W. by three hundred Ninty four poles to ye (Thunndes?) (old?) (line?) to a a white oak (Conig?) his Corner tree; thence, East thirty six poles to a branch dividing this Land & William Brooks; thence, East by North thirty two poles; thence, East ninety five poles; thence East Northeast thirty deg.; Thence, East twenty poles; thence, South East twenty eight poles; thence, East forty poles; thence South East fifty five poles to a poplar; thence, East by South fifty poles on the Swamp, then again from the said white oak stake and running South two hundred twenty two poles to a (Marshy?) (point?) of woods near William's (??) woods Land, and from (???????) through pond and Pocosin to the Eastwardly three hundred forty and four poles. The said Land (Going?) by Grant for the transportation of five and twenty persons Unto this Colony and to Have and To Hold or to be held & be holding and paying (???)
