Witnesseth that the said Jesse Hodges hath bargained, sold and put into possession of the aforesaid Richard Veal a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the sate of North Carolina and county of Bertie on the road that leads from Windsor to Halifax, being part of the land that belonged to Edward Acre dec'd butted and bounded as follows: Beginning at an oak and dog wood at Abram Smith's corner in Thomas Cane dec'd line Then along his line to a hickory and oak Then to Norfleet Acre's corner Thence along his line to a stake in Susanna Acre's dower line to Norfleet Acre's corner Then along his line to a pine near Jesse Hodges corner in John Young's line Thence along this line to the center of an oak and three pines to Smith's corner, then along his line to a stake in Susanna Acre's dower line to Smith's coren Then along his line to the first station The said land being a part of the land of Edward Acre dec'd drawn by his son, Abner Acre containing by estimation sixty (60) acreas be the same more or less all of which land in the above boundary. I the said Jesse Hodges for myself, my heirs, executors, adms or assign have sold, bargained and conveyed to the said Richard Veale, him, his heirs, executors, adm or assigns with all the privileges, profits or advantages therein containing or in anywise then in appertaining to him and his use forever for the sum of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) to me the said Jesse Hodges in hand paid the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge and am fully satisfied and paid and furthermore I the said Jesse Hodges do warrant and agree to and with the said Richard Veal to forever warrant and defend the title of the above premises of land unto the said Richard Veal clear from all encumbrances, right of clams of any person or persons whatever for me, my heirs, executors and assigns as witness my hand and seal the day and year above written. The Widow Susan Acres forever caused a part of the above named tract of land which is reserved for her lifetime. Jesse Hodges Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of: Jno H. Caudle William King. State of North Carolina, Bertie County August Term 1816 The deed from Jesse Hodges to Richard Veal was proved in open court by the oath of John H.
