"To all People to whom these presents shall come, Greeting &
know ye that I, THOMAS HOLDER, of Bertie County and State of
North Carolina, for and in condiseration of the sum of
fourteen pounds specie [?] to me in hand paid before the
ensealing hereof by DAVID PRUDEN, of the state and county
aforesaid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, and
myself therewith fully satisfied and contented thereof and
of every part and parcel thereof, do exonerate, aquite and
discharge the said DAVID PRUDEN his heirs, executors ad
administrators, forever by these presents, have given,
granted, bargained, sold, aliened, conveyed and confirmed
and by these presents do freely fully and absolutely give,
grant, bargain, sell, alien, convey and confirm unto him the
said DAVID PRUDEN, his heirs and assigns forever, one
messuage or tract of land situate lying and being in Bertie
County aforesaid Containing by Estimation thirty five acres,
more or less, lying on the north side of the said THOMAS
HOLDER's plantation between two branches called poplar
branchs, Beginning in one of them at a maple on the patent
line running an Easte course along the said line which is
NICHOLAS HARMAN's line to a read [red] oak at the other
branch thence down the said branch which is JAMES TAYLER's
[TAYLOE ?] line to a gum a corner tree standing in the mouth
of the said branch thence up the said popler branch to the
first station, To have and to hold the said granted and
bargained premises with all the appertenances, priviledges
and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise
appertaining to him the said DAVID PRUDEN, his heirs and
assigns, for ever, to his and their only proper use, benefit
and behoof forever, and I, the said THOMAS HOLDER, for me,
my heirs, executors, administrators do covenant, promise and
grant to and with the said DAVID PRUDEN, his heirs and
assigns, that before the ensealing hereof I am the true,
sole and lawfull owner of the above bargained premises and
am lawfully seized and possessed of the same in mine own
proper right as a good perfect and absolute Estate of
Inheritance in fee simple and have myself good right, full
power and lawfull authority to grant, bargain, sell, convey
and confirm said bargained premises in manner as abovesaid
and that the said DAVID PRUDEN, his heirs and assigns, shall
and may from time to time and at all times, forever
hereafter, by force and virtue of these presents lawfully,
peacebly and quietly have, hold, use, occupy, possess and
enjoy the said demised and bargained premises, with the
appurtencnaces, free and clear, and freely and clearly,
acquited, exonerated and discharged of and from all manner
of former and other gifts, grants, bargains, sales, leases,
messuages, wills, estate, jointers, doweries, judgments,
executions, incumbrances, extents furthermore I the said
THOMAS HOLDER for my self, my heirs, executors,
administrators do covenant and engage the above demised
premises to him the said DAVID PRUDEN, his heirs and
assigns, against the lawfull claims or demands of any person
or persons whatsoever forever hereafter to warrant, secure
and defend. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this twenty ninth day of June in the year of our
Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Six, and in the

The within Deed from THOMAS & SUSANAH HOLDER to DAVID PRUDEN
was proved in due form of law by the oath of JAMES TAYLER
one of the subscribing withness and ordered to be
