File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lorene Rambo hocott@aol.com Transcriber's Note: This area of Chowan became Bertie County in 1722. ========================= Early Deeds of Chowan Province 1719 Edward Howcott to Beal Brown Know all men by these presents that I, Edward Howcott of the Precinct of Chowan and Province abovesaid planter for and in consideration of the sum of Forty Pounds Sterling to me in hand paid Beal Brown of the same province and precinct the rect of which I do acknowledge to have received of the said Beal Brown have given granted bargained released and confirmed unto the said Beal Brown his Heirs and assigns forever Six hundred and forty acres of land be the same more or less lying and being in Chowan Precinct Beginning at a Reedy Branch below Melton's Cabbins running up the said Swamp a westwardly Course to the Head line so along the line to the next corner tree so down the said lne to the Marsh so along the marsh to the first Station. To have and to hold the said Tract of Six Hundred and forty acres of land be the same more or less with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Beal Brown his heirs and assigns forever for the use of the said Brown his heirs and assigns forever and I the said Edward Howcott for myself my heirs, executors and administrators do warrant maintain and defend the same to the above Beal Brown his heirs and assigns forever to the only use and behoof of the said Brown his Heirs and assigns forever to have occupy and enjoy without ______ molestation from me my heirs executors and administrators or any other person whatsoever.
