File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lorene Rambo hocott@aol.com Transcriber's Note: This area of Chowan became Bertie County in 1722. ========================= Early Deeds of Chowan Precinct 1719 Beal Brown to Edward Howcott Know all men by these presents that I Beal Brown of the Precinct of Chowan and province abovesaid planter for and in consideration of the sum of forty Pounds to me in hand paid by Edward Howcott of the same province and Precinct the Receipt whereof I do acknowledge to have received of the said Howcott have given granted Bargained released and confirmed and by these presents do give grant Bargain Sell and confirm unto the said Edward Howcott his Heirs and assigns forever two hundred acres of land lying in Chowan Precinct Beginning at a marked poplar on the North side of Ahotsky Swamp so running a Shot Course to the head line so runing a straight line to the lower ______ of Ahotsky so up the Swamp to the first Station to have and to hold the said Tract or Two hundred acres of land be the same more or less with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Edward Howcott his Heirs and assigns forever the said Beal Brown for myself my Heirs Executors Administrators do warrant maintain and Defend the said Title from me my Heirs Executors and Administrators and from all manner of persons claiming the same to the above Edward Howcott his Heirs and assigns forever to have possess occupy and Enjoy without ___________ or molestation from me my Heirs Executors and administrators or any other Person whatsoever in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hands and Seal this 17th ___ 1719.
